Beautiful Fall Days

It's November and the weather is amazing! Temperatures in the 70s last week got us out and over to the Mississippi River to enjoy the sunshine.

We've been lucky to have so many friends and relatives visit this summer/fall. That means we get to go out and show them our beautiful "neighborhood". This is the view from Mt Hosmer in Lansing, Iowa

Busy Summer

Time is flying by and I cannot believe it is August! The latest project we are working on is replacing the little metal shed with something more permanent. We are calling it "The She Shed"!

Added a few more pieces of Haitian metal art, and now it's all finished!

Back Yard Beautification

Our house is located on the side a hill, so a retaining wall was needed...a big one! So our backyard is dominated by this wall.

After years of looking at this wall as our view, we got an idea to break up the expanse. First, I needed doors, old doors. So we attended an auction of a neighbor who had LOTS of doors he was selling.

The bidding was crazy and doors were selling for SO much money...several that I wanted went way over my budget. Here is the one I wound up getting.

Several weeks later, I was able to find more doors at a local antique store for a reasonable price...they actually sold for LESS than what doors were selling for at the auction!

Now I had the doors, time to get my handy partner, Steve to install them for me! A row of blocks placed on the ground...3 coats of varnish added to the doors...and attached the doors to the wall with long metal anchors. Add flowers and a few of my favorite things, and it's all finished!!

Spring in the Hollow

Things are starting to thaw out and the small creek in our Hollow is growing larger each day. These icicles in the shade in the old quarry won't last much longer.

Always fun to go back into the city. We saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson at the Overture Center. A wonderful evening...but always so nice to get back to our Hollow.
